Darn cables - they get wrapped up in the wheels. Cats chew through them
(I miss poor Fluffy). They make the Roomba's life miserable.
Ahhh! The BlueSMiRF Gold by Sparkfun uses a new Bluetooth module by Roving
Networks to create a cool virtual cable
that can stream serial data from 9600 to 115200bps. They've
even been tested successfully over a distance of 106M (350ft) in open
air. Just try to trip over that cable. I dares ya!
Many people are using modules like this for on-the-fly programming and
debugging of mobile devices (robots, remote sensors, embedded systems
tucked deep into places where you can't reach...). Compared to having
to fetch your sumo robot, plug it in, load code, then reposition it for
another battle, a Bluetooth solution makes it as easy as tweaking a
variable, and hitting the "send" key!
This unit can take power from a 3.3V to 6V supply, and all signal pins
are suitably 3V-6V tolerant, not needing any shift-leveling.
| NOTE:
Do not attach this device directly to a serial
port. RS232-to-TTL
conversion is required before hooking it
directly to your computer. |
Here's the specifications:
- FCC approved Class-1 Bluetooth radio modem
