The Analog Infra-Red Range Finding System (AIRRS) is a compact, fully-integrated IR range-finding system in a small, inexpensive package. The AIRRS is Ideal for mobile robot navigation, positioning, distance & speed measurement.
The AIRRS works by emitting an infra-red beam and watching for its reflection. The further away the object is from the sensor the long its reflection takes to reach the sensor and the lower the output voltage. The typical voltage range for an AIRRS is from 0V for an object at 80cm to 2.5V for an object at 10cm.
The AIRRS sensor is an analog sensor, in order to use this product with a microcontroller you must have an available Analog-to-Digital Converter in your micro or use an external A/D converter. Using a comparator will allow the AIRRS to be set as a threshold detector.
