This is actually pretty handy way to make sure your 5V
electronic devices that use a voltage regulator run rock-solid (which
is pretty much all of them!)
A voltage regulator's job is to take a higher voltage, and
turn it into a solid 5V source the electronic device depends on. To do
its job properly, the regulator needs 5-volts plus
1.3 volts minimum. You want more voltage, but not
so much more that it's ridiculous, and over-stresses the regulator (like
trying to produce 5V from a 30V supply).
This is where this battery pack come in. Four 1.5V cells
provides a solid 6V, but that's on the hairy edge of that
overhead we mentioned earlier. The fifth cell in
this pack jumps you up to 7.5 volts, so you'll be able to easily run
your batteries down to 1.2V each (=6V) and get longer, better, more
robust performance out of your device!
Did we mention that it comes with a 2.1mm barrel jack
(tip positive) on 5" wire leads? It's ideal for Arduino / Freeduino!
