It used to be that single-element sensors had a "dead zone" close to the sensor due to the "ringing" that had to die down from the initial ping so the element could sense the ping's return, but not anymore. MaxBotix has eliminated this ringing effect to bring the sensor range right down to zero inches away (and up to 254 inches away - that's 21.6' or 6.45M!).

The LV-MaxSonar-EZ4 has the narrowest beam of the LV sensor lineup, which means it is the least sensitive to objects to the side of the sensor beam. As with the rest of the MaxSonar-EZ series, this sensor offers three standard outputs: Analog voltage, serial data, and pulse width modulation. Power draw is also quite low, operating from 2.5V to 5V with less then 3mA nominal current draw.

The LV-MaxSonar-EZ4 is an excellent choice when only larger objects in front of the sensor need to be detected.
